Honoring Glenda Margaret Bence
She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister, friend, mentor and to my dad, his “best friend and life partner”. Mom exuded energy like no other person I know. She was a child at heart, so talented, a wonderful teacher of life, there was nothing she wouldn't try, and that's how she raised us. We lost our mom to multiple myeloma in February of 2007.
It has been 6 years and not a day goes by that we don’t think about her. We know she is watching over all of us. You are so dearly missed Mom!
Today, I am doing something I love, because even through her battle, she still encouraged me to follow my heart. I went back to school, trained to be a chef, and now own a small restaurant. I know if she were here today she would be greeting everyone as they walked through the door, making the best desserts, and cooking up a storm. I believe she is with me everyday guiding me through the trials of business ownership. She always supported all of us (6 children) in anything we did and was always there to guide us along the way. We really were blessed with the best mom ever, truly supporting us in everything we did. So here I am.
As long as I can remember, Mom held events in her small town to raise money for so many charities. The events consisted of afternoon teas, weekend events with games for the children, softball tournaments and so much more. She always was volunteering her time to give back as she felt we were a very blessed family.
On March 2, 2013, from 2-5pm, I am hosting the "Celebrating Mom" Afternoon Tea at Fresno Café, Durham, NC (http://www.fresnocafedurham.com)to raise awareness, raise money for International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) research and to honor the most inspiring woman of my life, my Mom.
Please support me by making a fully tax-deductible donation to the IMF so no other family has to go through this pain. Together we can wipe out this deadly disease. On behalf of my family members and myself I thank you for your support.
