FLYING PIG MARATHON

Miracles happen when pigs fly, and they do in Cincinnati, OH! We are running the Cincinnati Flying Pig Half Marathon (our 4th half marathon) on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 6:30 a.m. Our running crew continues to increase each year! This year Marshall Weesner (Teresa's husband), Chris Lindeman, and Bridget Behrmann will be joining us for the half marathon. Bridget will be doing the three-way challenge by running the 5k and 10k on Saturday May 2nd, in addition to the half marathon on Sunday. Ellen's husband, Brian, and kids- Olivia age 10 and Evan age 8 will be running the 5k race this year. Ellen's youngest son, Eli age 5, will be running the Kids’ Marathon 26th mile which is a 1 mile run. All of us will be donning myeloma shirts to raise awareness!

We would love to continue to expand our myeloma running team for the Flying Pig Marathon Weekend in a greater effort to spread the word about myeloma and the vital work of the International Myeloma Foundation. We would love for you to join us on either Saturday May 2nd or Sunday May 3rd in raising myeloma awareness. Not a runner? No worries. You can walk, jog, run, or come to cheer us on!

Myeloma hits close to home for us. Our dad, Christopher Meier, a family physician was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in November 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and subsequently a stem cell bone marrow transplant in October 2013 that resulted in a good response. Unfortunately there is still no cure for myeloma and he remains on maintenance chemotherapy to help keep his myeloma under control. While he may have a few side effects from his previous therapy, he continues to work full time as a family physician doing what he loves best, caring for his patients. He truly is an inspiration for all of us,

Our family is committed to raising awareness for myeloma and supporting the International Myeloma Foundation which provides vital support to patients and their families as they face this daunting illness. The IMF is a valuable educational resource for myeloma patients, working toward advancing medical treatments, and ultimately finding a cure. Our family can attest to the wonderful work of the IMF as we have been involved with the IMF since 2009 when our parents joined the local IMF support group and attended IMF sponsored informational meetings for myeloma patients and their families.

Even if you are unable to join us for the Flying Pig Marathon events, we need your help. Last year with your generous donations we raised $3,100 for the International Myeloma Foundation. We would love to continue to increase our fundraising efforts and exceed that amount this year!

To join our team or enter in another Flying Pig event, contact Teresa at meiertem@gmail.com for more information.
